There are many things to do in the park that are just for kids. Here are just a few.
The park has a three day program at Great Smoky Mountain Institute at Tremont that is specifically for children ages nine (9) through twelve (12). This program is operated by the Great Smoky Mountains History Association. Call 865-448-6709 for details.
The University of Tennessee Smoky Mountain Field School offers family programs on subjects such as: animal tracks, amphibians, insects and reptiles. Call 865-974-0150 for additional information.
Young people can become a "Junior Ranger" and earn a Junior Ranger badge by completing a series of activities relating to the park. Inquire at the park visitor's centers for the booklet and additional information.
You can take a guided nature walk in the park with a ranger. Check at the visitor centers for times and places.
Located at Oconaluftee, this museum replicates an old mid 1800's farm. Also, from spring to autumn, there are living history demonstrations. The Museum is next to Oconaluftee Visitor's Center.

The park has living history demonstrations at Cades Cove and Cataloochee Valley. Pioneer life is re-enacted at Mountain Farm Museum. Mingus Mill and Cable Mill are operating water-powered grist mills where you can watch corn being ground the old fashioned way. There are also historic sites and buildings along the Cades Cove, Roaring Fork and Cherokee Orchard Motor Nature Trails.
