Wears Beary Grateful Retreat is a brand new, custom built, real log custom cabin. You’ll be one of the very first to stay here. Come and enjoy this relaxing getaway nestled in gorgeous Wears Valley. It is beautifully designed and decorated for a light, airy and naturally relaxing feel. It includes handmade furniture as well as a local artisan-crafted mural and wooden carved pieces. This cabin boasts stunning mountain and tree top views from 2 decks and gazebos. You will be treated to two king sized bedrooms with en-suites and the cabin sleeps up to 9 with queen sleeper sofas in both loft and living room. There are also 2 full bathrooms and 2.5 baths. The downstairs game room (featuring a Pop-A-Shot, Tabletop Jukebox, and Pac-Man Arcade Console) and theater room are perfect for both the young and young at heart, and for guests looking for a quieter atmosphere there is a gorgeous open loft with exposed beams, desk, half bath and sleeper sofa. The main floor has a fully stocked quartz top kitchen with new black stainless appliances. Throughout the cabin guests will also find a handmade red cedar table and chairs as well as handmade beds and nightstands. This cabin is easily accessible and in close proximity to the many attractions in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg without the traffic (10 mi to PF). It is also only minutes from Smoky Mountain National Park entrance (less traveled entrance close to Laurel Falls). The cabin also offers free seasonal access to the nearby community swimming pool and catch/release fishing pond. We have stayed at several cabins managed by volunteer Canins, our experience has always been favorable. This year we stayed at Wears Beary Grateful cabin, a two bedroom accommodation. We found it to be exceptionally nice, it was clean, tastefully decorated and comfortable.
We had issues with the fireplace and our concerns were promptly addressed and rectified .I think it was mostly operator error, however they were too nice to say that. I highly recommend Volunteer Cabin rental to everyone.
We did get to see the neighborhood bears, which was an extra treat.

We have been coming to Gatlinburg for many years and by far Wears Beary Grateful Retreat was the best cabin we ever rented in the Smokies. The location was great and the cabin itself was awesome. It was very clean and had everything we needed. Volunteer cabin rentals were great to work with and very accommodating. We will definitely rent this place again

Again, the cabin is beautifully decorated and comes with everything you may need for the adventures to be had. I stayed here with my wife and 10 month old baby so I am always extra protective when we are in new places.
When you book these cabins you are provided specific instructions for the door lock. You have a touchpad lock on top and a standard door knob below. You are not supposed to lock the bottom door knob or you can get locked out of the cabin (which happened to me) so all thats really keeping the door shut is the keypad lock.
Normally thats fine, but the door itself had a HUGE window mid section which is great if you want to look outside, but awful for someone if they wanted to look in. I could see into the main kitchen area and living room just from the front door. No blinds or anything to block view.
You really could smash the window and unlock BOTH locks with ease.
Sure, it maybe a stretch for something like that to happen, and generally it “seems” safe, but it will never be 0%
Also, it is made well known in the paperwork you sign they are not liable for any lost, stolen, or damaged goods.
I would strongly recommend a new entry door for that cabin to give travelers like myself peace of mind when they are visiting this location with their family.

The touchpad lock does a great job of keeping the door locked so we will disable the additional lock to avoid confusion in the future. We also will provide shades for the front door windows to give more privacy to those inside the house. We hardly have any crime issues in our area, but this is an easy fix and an easy way to provide even more security. Thanks again for your feedback.

We booked with Volunteer Cabins because we’d heard great things and let me tell you, what we heard was a understatement. The office staff were incredibly helpful when we had to make a change to our reservation. The cabin was absolutely beautiful and in a great location. There were 6 black bears (1 mama and 5 cubs) that we saw almost daily. We were also close to everything including the National Park which I took my dog to every morning. We will definitely be coming back next year.

This was one of the best cabins that I stayed in over the 15 years I’ve been visiting the Smoky Mountains. The cabin was brand new and spotless, extremely clean. The owner really takes pride in this cabin. Everything was extremely clean and spotless tons of supplies and dishes. Nicely decorated rooms and very comfortable beds. I would definitely stay here again and plan to book another stay in the winter.

The two king sized beds were covered with waterproof mattress covers but no actual mattress pad between it and the sheets. The plastic sheet was so slippery that the sheets would not stay on the mattress and we fought that problem all night. It was also very hot and uncomfortable to sleep on and I felt as though I was on a hospital vinyl mattress.

Pigeon Forge is our home away from home so we have stayed in lots of cabins over the years. This cabin layout is a little quirky but that’s what We loved most about it. Great for couples with kids cause there are 2 extra private sleeping areas. The only thing I would recommend is to add a full length mirror for the women.

I believe we were the second family to stay in this new cabin. It is very cozy and comfortable. We enjoyed our time there and would again. The people at VCR are very friendly and were very thorough explaining directions and giving us after hour numbers in case we needed them. (We did not!) We saw squirrels, chipmunks, and a turkey from the balcony of this beautiful property. It is very accessibly located to all the places we wanted to visit. Thank you VCR staff for a wonderful experience for our vacation!
