In most parts of the country, a new convenience store coming to town isn't exactly big news. But for us here in the Smokies, the recent opening of Buc-ee's in Sevierville is something that folks have been anticipating for months. And when an event makes the local TV news, you know there's something to it.
That's because - for the few of you who may not be familiar with the brand - Texas-based Buc-ee's is known for doing things on a massive scale, and in the case of the new Sevierville Buc-ee's, it's the biggest company store in the nation. Although it will only hold that title temporarily, until an even bigger one goes up in Texas, for now, the Great Smoky Mountains area has bragging rights.
What can you expect from this mega-Buc's? Let's start with the gas pumps. The Sevierville location has 120 pumps and 22 electric-vehicle charging stations. There's also a 250-foot-long car wash expected to come later in the year.
Inside, you're looking at 74,000 square feet of travel indulgence. It has all the things that most convenience stores carry - drinks, snacks, sundries, etc. One of the things Buc-ee's is best known for is its massive selection of chocolate-coated nuts and pretzels as well as beef jerky, homemade fudge, gummie candies and the famous Beaver Nuggets - puffed corn nuggets coated in caramel that make travel snacking a sweet prospect.
Buc-ee's also prepares and serves its own menu of sandwich items like barbecue brisket, pulled pork and breakfast meats. And then let's pile on top of all that items like banana pudding and key lime pie cups, meat and cheese trays and sprawling areas to procure a wide variety of coffees and sodas.
Beyond food, other sections of the store carry a wide selection of clothing and gift items, camping and travel-related gear and even housewares. And Buc-ee's is also known for the cleanliness of its restrooms. No joke; the bathrooms are huge, offer lots of privacy and are, at any given moment, immaculate thanks to the vigilant custodial staff.
Whether you've never heard of Buc-ee's or have heard the buzz but not experienced it for yourself, you should probably plan a stop there on your next trip to the Smokies. It's located just off Interstate 40 at Exit 407, at the gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains. It's right on the way to Wears Valley if you happen to have booked a cozy cabin with our company.
