No matter when you visit the Tennessee Smokies, you'll always find something new – from hot new music acts to cool new rides and attractions.
That's truer than ever in 2021, as exciting new developments come to the Pigeon Forge-Gatlinburg area.
Traveling with small children, seniors, or anyone else who balks at climbing steep slopes? Ride the brand-new Pigeon Forge Chairlift to take in stunning aerial views of surrounding mountain scenery – without having to hike a single trail.
Currently under construction next to Pigeon Forge Snow, the Chairlift is slated to open in spring 2021. Once completed, it will carry you and your travel buddies – two people per chair – high up above Pigeon Forge to the top of an all-new 85-foot observation tower.
Along the way, you'll enjoy magnificent views. And, once you deboard at the spacious circular deck, you'll be treated to gorgeous 360-degree vistas guaranteed to take your breath away. Don't forget to bring along your camera phone or digital camera!
The observation tower itself will feature a spiral staircase, circling from base to summit. If you're up for the climb (or descent), you'll find it immensely rewarding, as you'll have a chance to view Pigeon Forge and environs from various scenic vantage points.
Of course, the new Pigeon Forge Chairlift is not the only aerial lift in Tennessee's Smoky Mountains. But it's the first one in Pigeon Forge, so it offers unique perspectives on the region's picturesque sights.
How would you like to be immersed in a thrilling cinematic experience while you're soaring high above Smoky Mountains scenery?
That's what you can expect when you board the Flying Theatre at The Island in Pigeon Forge.
Originally scheduled for 2020, this one-of-a-kind attraction is now slated to open in March 2021.
Strapped safely into your "theatre" seat, you'll be lifted aloft and suspended in midair as a spectacular film presentation plays out before you. Surrounded by an enormous 180-degree screen, you'll view an eye-popping panorama of "America the Beautiful" –mountains, canyons, deserts, and more, from sea to shining sea. Throughout, you'll be serenaded by the sounds of nature: rushing rivers, singing birds, rustling leaves, and whistling winds. You'll feel cool breezes, savor the scent of fresh blossoms, and revel in salty sea mists, for the ultimate immersive experience.
Seeking yet another way to view the Great Smoky Mountains? You're in luck: Phase 1 of the all-new SkyTrail is already open to the public at Gatlinburg SkyLift Park. Stroll this quarter-mile elevated boardwalk to get a unique, panoramic look at the 680-foot-long SkyBridge against its awesome mountain backdrop.
When Phase 2 is complete in Spring 2021, the SkyTrail will be accessible from either side of the SkyBridge. Offering an easy one-third-mile trek – ideal for kids, grownups, and dogs – it will feature viewing platforms, rope bridges, and a smooth walking path cut right into the hillside.
You'll find plenty of additional new things to experience here in the Tennessee Smokies – from Irish Month at the Titanic Museum (March 1-31) to new upscale shops and eateries at Mountain Mile & Tower Shops. Not to mention the famous natural beauties this region has always been known for.
