Have you ever seen a child gaze in wide-eyed wonder at glittering holiday lights?
Visit the Smokies this holiday season, and you'll feel like that child yourself – lost in awe at the luminous magic of Winterfest.
Throughout the season, the mountains will sparkle with millions of shimmering lights, hundreds of dazzling displays, and gala events galore. So, gather the family, hop in the car, and head for the Tennessee hills.
The festivities shift into extra-high gear on the evening of November 22, 2019, when the 30th annual Winterfest kicks off in Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg.
Take a leisurely drive along the Pigeon Forge Parkway to view huge, elaborate displays featuring five million LED lights. You'll get to glimpse the Twelve Days of Christmas as you've never seen them before, aglow with brilliant light in the crisp December night.
In nearby Gatlinburg, the entire downtown area blazes with millions of lights showcasing countless displays – cute woodland critters, beloved holiday characters, old-timey mountain scenes, and more.
Don't feel like driving? Hop aboard the Gatlinburg Winter Magic Trolley Ride of Lights!
For just $10 per person (free for children 3 and under), you can relax in an enclosed, heated trolley as it rolls through downtown Gatlinburg and adjacent East Parkway. Spacious windows offer ample views of the brightly lit displays... so just sit back in cozy comfort and enjoy the ride.
New this year, a costumed storyteller will be onboard to guide your viewing experience. Plus, you'll be treated to complimentary hot chocolate, courtesy of Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies, along with commemorative tokens, which you can keep as cherished mementos of the whole unforgettable experience.
Winter Magic Trolley Tours run every evening between November 22 and December 31 at 6:30, 7:30, and 8:30 p.m. There are no tours on December 6, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, or New Year's Eve.
Can't get enough of those eye-popping holiday lights? Come to nearby Sevierville – or, rather, neighboring Kodak – for Shadrack's Christmas Wonderland. Between November 9, 2019, and January 6, 2020, the Tennessee Smokies Baseball Stadium (3540 Line Drive) shimmers with hundreds of thousands of LED Christmas lights, sparkling in synchronized unison with your favorite holiday carols. It's billed as the "world's largest drive-through, fully synchronized, LED Christmas light and music show," and it's open nightly from 6 to 10 p.m. (later on weekends).
Throughout the Christmas season, the Tennessee Smokies brim with holiday fun, including:
Legendary seasonal shows: Christmas at Dolly Parton's Stampede, Country Tonite's Christmas Show, Comedy Barn's famous Christmas special, Hatfield and McCoy Christmas Dinner Disaster, plus a thrilling Christmas spectacular at Dolly Parton's new Pirates Voyage Dinner Show
Winter Magic Tunes & Tales, nightly in downtown Gatlinburg, featuring beloved holiday carols (and more) performed by gifted strolling singers, musicians, and downhome storytellers
Gatlinburg's 44th annual Fantasy of Lights Christmas Parade, starting at 7:30 p.m. sharp on December 6
Dollywood's Smoky Mountain Christmas, Santa's Village in Sevierville, Christmas at The Island in Pigeon Forge, one-of-a-kind shopping at the Village Shops, and more
