For the thrill seekers in your crowd: who needs an intense adrenaline rush? If you have not yet discovered Mountain Monster in Pigeon Forge, here's your opportunity for a one-of-kind experience.
Mountain Monster is an outdoor 200 foot tower, that is the focal point of the new Mountain Mile complex, opened summer of 2019 and still growing. Located on Teaster Lane, the development is the reimagined vision for the previous Belz Factory Outlet Mall location, a block from the Parkway intersection with Walden's Creek Road in Pigeon Forge. Mountain Mile District features an expanding array of shopping, food and drink establishments, and entertainment venues worth visiting.
Now for all the details on "THE MONSTER". The tower is actually a trio of thrill rides, with no other location in the United States that combines these three experiences together in one location. Test one or all, but our entire team says there is no reason to not go the whole way for all three and bragging rights!
Monster Fall may be the most familiar of the three offered. You probably have seen a tiny kiddie version at a county fair, or can compare it to Drop Line at Dollywood. But the serious difference with Monster Fall is the terror factor. Unlike Drop Line, there are no shoulder buffer harnesses to secure you to the seat and only 7 adjacent friends to encourage your bravado. There is nothing but you, on an open saddle seat, hoisted for a breathtaking 50 mph free fall ride, dropping downward about 200 feet.
Tip: Don't eat directly prior to this ride, since the main thrill is an induced shock to the stomach.
Premiere Monster Dive is a dual-seat aerial dive ride for 2 people. If as a kid you craved being pulled back high enough to face the ground on a swing set, this adventure ride is for you. The suspense for this ride is built prior to the actual swing dive flight of up to 65 mph. Before being released to swing freely, the seat is turned horizontal facing downward toward the ground, and you are held in place only by the restraints. To me, the fear-inducing part is no true handles to grasp. You and your bravest (or least fearful) companion can shriek together, as most everyone in the general vicinity stops to watch your excursion reaction.
Tip: Don't think too hard prior to this one, or you might reason your way out of riding-and missing the thrill would be a shame.
Monster Launch is the stuff dreams (nightmares?) are made of. This 2-person back-to-back saddle sling seat on the ground is actually a catapult shot straight vertically upward 140 feet, with an optional loose rollover flip at the top (your choice before launch). Again my opinion, the lack of a surrounding cocoon of a seat is the most disconcerting part of the experience. There is only a half-round grip on the seat between your knees to keep a tenuous grasp on your life.
Tip: Choose the flip! Most riders agree that it is far more fun, and actually a little smoother. Because, why not?
Go ahead and splurge for the video/photo package. That way the "scream like a girl" moment and facial expressions are an easily shared souvenir.
There is also a "not-so-secret" extra ride on the tower, if you ask for a speed drop return on the chair lift back down from above.
Lastly, if you want a special trip (or second round), try a night ride, offered on Friday and Saturday evenings. Both the lighted views and the darkened surroundings change the experience.
For your ride requirements knowledge, minimum height is 46" tall, and maximum weight is 250 lbs. per individual and 450 lbs. per duo. The attraction is open 7 days 1-6 pm, and Friday and Saturday 1-9pm. Hours can vary by season and are also impacted by weather, so verify and plan accordingly. We also commend the staff, who truly want to make the experience positive for all ages and levels of courage. Their professional assurance and hospitality are much appreciated!
After settling in to your cabin in the Smokies, some seek well-deserved peace and quiet rest. Send your adventure lovers out the door and straight to here. Not for the timid, Mountain Monster is a thriller 3-ride combination offered together nowhere else. We believe the adrenaline surge is totally worth it! So check your box for a single thrill, or mark off a bucket list adventure. As they say, "Come and conquer the Monster, if you think you have the guts!"
