You've been cooped up all winter, and now you're hankering for some outdoor fun and frolic. Why not round up your besties and head for the Tennessee Smokies? Whether you come for a week or a weekend, you'll find plenty to see and do here in these breathtaking mountains.
In fact, Spring may be the perfect time for a rejuvenating getaway. Temperatures are pleasant, and trails and attractions are much less crowded than at the height of summer. Here are a few suggestions for gal-pleasing group activities.
Unless all your fellow travelers are avid hikers, you may want to keep it simple. Perhaps start with Gatlinburg Trail, a picturesque 1.9-mile nature trail that begins right behind the Sugarlands Visitor Center at the entrance to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Or choose Cataract Falls Trail – which also starts at the Visitor Center – for an easy 2-mile trek along mostly paved paths, ending at a stunning 25-foot-high waterfall.
For more challenge, check out Laurel Falls Trail, Grotto Falls Trail, Abrams Falls Trail, and Porters Creek Trail, all especially pretty at this time of year.
If you're planning your girls' getaway for early May, don't miss the Smoky Mountains Wildflower Pilgrimage. Slated for May 1-4, this year's celebration will take you on:
Plus, you'll get to explore the Smokies' rich natural and cultural heritage through indoor seminars and presentations at Gatlinburg's Mills Conference Center.
Nestled in the heart of Gatlinburg, just past Stoplight #6 on the Parkway, The Village has something for everyone:
...all in a quaint Old World setting with a charming Bavarian ambiance.
The Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge area is known for its world-class dinner shows. Be sure to book ahead to secure your seats at popular Pigeon Forge shows like these:
Are you familiar with Anakeesta? This award-winning mountaintop park sits on 70 scenic acres 600 feet above downtown Gatlinburg. It's loaded with thrilling immersive attractions, all set amidst magnificent mountain views.
And right now, if you visit after dark, you can experience Astra Lumina, an "enchanted night walk" through a magical world of projections, lighting, and music, where you'll be surrounded by shimmering stars and immersed in the wonders of the cosmos. It's an unforgettable adventure.
