What's in the air this spring in the Smokies? The fragrance of fresh mountain flowers... plus the tantalizing aroma of delicious gourmet cuisine.
It's all part of Dollywood's new Flower and Food Festival, scheduled for April 23 through June 7, 2021.
Designed to celebrate Dollywood's 35th anniversary, this fascinating festival features nearly half a million flowers and plants, with unique, colorful exhibits "budding" at every turn.
Throughout the park, you'll encounter colossal floral displays including:
A beautiful botanical sculpture – made entirely of plants – depicting Dolly Parton's mother quilting the famous "Coat of Many Colors"
A lifelike family of black bears in a gorgeous garden setting – all carefully sculpted from real, live, blooming blossoms
A big butterfly-strewn umbrella commemorating Dolly's hit song, "I Will Always Love You"
Plus topiary turtles, raccoons, and frogs; an awesome flower-mosaic "carpet," and more
All these larger-than-life floral sculptures are created, pruned, and manicured by expert horticulturalists, so they'll be in picture-perfect bloom during the festival and beyond.
This multi-faceted festival also offers a wide array of culinary delights inspired by spring in the Smokies. Tickle your taste buds with:
Tender spring beef over crispy potatoes
Heirloom tomato and feta galette
Savory lime chicken legs over rice pilaf
Caprese skewers with balsamic reduction
Plus refreshing non-alcoholic drinks like rose lemon spritzer, fresh violet slushy, and pink watermelon lemonade slushy
Throughout the festival, hundreds of giant umbrellas will hang suspended over Dollywood's Showstreet – a spectacular sight you definitely won't want to miss.
There'll be plenty of photo ops, too, along with interactive displays designed to delight the kiddies.
It's only natural that Dollywood's newest festival should focus on flowers and food. After all, the Smokies' distinctive scenery and culinary culture played a pivotal role in Dolly Parton's childhood. Now Dolly brings her love of her Tennessee heritage to life in a fabulous new way.
As Dolly herself puts it, "When I was just a little girl, spring was a wondrous time. Everything came to life – flowers bloomed in the meadow near our house, and the dogwood, red bud, and fruit trees blossomed with the sweetest smells. I imagined having my own special field of flowers that were a fragrant home to my favorite animal friends in the woods. Now, my Dollywood becomes that special place with everything made of flowers – I can't wait to share it with everyone just in time for our 35th season!"
Dollywood's fun-filled festival season is just getting underway. From spring's Barbeque and Bluegrass hoedown through the annual Summer Celebration, you'll have your pick of gala events and magical festivities.
And, of course, you'll also have ready access to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, with its countless scenic trails, magnificent mountain views, crystal-clear streams, sparkling waterfalls, and more.
