What magic lies deep in the forest? Find out at Wildwood Grove, Dollywood's largest expansion ever, slated to open in spring 2019.
Constructed at a cost of more than $37 million, this family-focused attraction will feature 11 new rides and activities, ranging from the kid-friendly Black Bear Trail to the thrilling DragonFlier rollercoaster. All in an enchanted forest setting filled with lush greens and purples, where butterflies dance and fireflies dart and soar.
Like other Dollywood attractions, Wildwood Grove focuses on a theme. But this time the theme has little to do with grist mills, country music, or Appalachian lore. Instead, it involves a story about a little girl named Rebecca, who follows mysterious music into a fairytale forest where she finds the huge Wildwood Tree. As she touches the tree, a world of enchantment opens up all around her – the world of Wildwood Grove.
As you enter the Grove, you'll see the Tree itself – with fluttering butterflies festooning its leaves and musical instruments carved into its rugged bark.
Right across from the Tree you'll find Wildwood Creek, where kids and adults alike can splash in the fresh mountain water. Nearby you'll discover Hidden Hollow, a 4,000-square-foot indoor play space offering cool hands-on activities geared toward younger kids. (There's even a separate area where toddlers can safely explore.)
Traveling with little ones? They'll enjoy Black Bear Trail, a non-coaster ride that lets them glide through the woods on the backs of the friendliest "bears" they'll ever meet. Plus, they'll love Frogs and Fireflies, where they can bob and bounce as they chase a playful frog around a scenic circuit.
If your kids are up for a little more challenge, they'll relish the Sycamore Swing, a colossal see-sawing tree swing big enough for your entire family. They'll adore the Mad Mockingbird, an aerial escapade that captures the wonders of bird flight. And they'll love soaring and spinning in acorn-shaped gondolas high up in the TreeTop Tower.
All along the way, they'll encounter colorful critters – Benjamin Bear, Franklin Frog, and (best of all) Flit and Flutter, two graceful, beautiful butterflies who embody the fairytale spirit of Wildwood Grove.
If you have older children, you won't want to miss the exhilarating DragonFlier ride. Designed to mimic the flight of a dragonfly, this unique suspended coaster darts, dips, twists, and turns as it dodges geysers and races at amazing speed through breathtaking natural scenery.
In the evening, you and your family can gather at the Wildwood Tree to witness a sparkling light show, complete with spectacular fireworks. It's truly the perfect ending to an utterly magical day.
