5 Must-Do Outings When Visiting The Smokies

Posted by Jon Hoffman in Things To Do

Let's say you've booked your accommodations in the Great Smoky Mountains; you've already rented a luxury cabin from us, and you've marked the dates on your calendar for that big getaway or vacation.

But that's just step one. Once you've checked in and gotten settled in your overnight rental, you'll eventually want to get out and explore the area. If this is your first time here, or you're coming back to try some different things, the following suggestions may help you plan your days a little more specifically. In our opinion, these are some of the essential things that every Smoky Mountains visitor should work into their itinerary at one point or another.

Ride a raft at Dolly's Splash Country

Visit Great Smoky Mountains National Park

If it weren't for the park, places like Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg and Sevierville wouldn't be what they are today. The national park is a true treasure, occupying parts of East Tennessee and Western North Carolina and providing visitors with more than 800 square miles of pristine woodlands and majestic mountains. Within the park itself, recreational activities like hiking, cycling, horseback riding, camping, fishing and picnicking are either free or very reasonably priced. And the scenery you'll experience along the way can't be beat. This should be your highest priority. Before visiting the park, however, make sure you research information on the parking permits required to park your vehicle during your visit.

Take A Ride At Dollywood

Whether you spend one day there or three, this largest theme park in Tennessee has a little bit of everything and something for all ages. Whether your interests lie in thrill rides, family rides, music shows, unique attractions or hand-made arts and crafts, this Pigeon Forge fun spot has it all. They've been entertaining Smoky Mountain visitors for nearly 40 years, and if Dolly Parton puts her name on it, you know it's a quality experience.

Slip Sliding Away

Speaking of Dollywood, there's an awesome water park adjacent to the theme park, and it's called Dollywood Splash Country. It's home to dozens of cool water slides and other features like a wave pool, lazy river, kids' play areas and more. But that's not the only water park in town. You'll find Soaky Mountain Water Park in Sevierville, and it has a lot of the same types of experiences.

See A Show

Pigeon Forge is known for its music theaters, which provide a wide range of entertainment for guests of all ages and interests. There's a lot of country, gospel and bluegrass on those stages, to be sure, but our venues show their versatility with productions showcasing magic, comedy, horseback competitions, pirate battles and much more.

What's The Attraction?

You'll also want to knock out an attraction or two while you're in the Smokies. From the Tennessee Smokies in Sevierville to the Titanic Museum Attraction in Pigeon Forge to Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies, we have dozens of family-friendly destinations to choose from. Drive some go-carts, play some mini golf, jump on trampolines or tour a unique museum. The options are seemingly endless!

Whichever combination of the above you choose, you're sure to make lasting memories that you can reflect on while you enjoy your stay at your vacation home in the Smokies.
